What to Expect at The Journey
Expect to be Comfortable
First off, come as you are. God is much more interested in the type of person you are on the inside than what you look like on the outside. Some people wear jeans while others dress up a little. It really makes no difference to us. Some people bring their Bibles. Our Sunday service starts at 10:00 AM and ends around 11:30 AM. It's not so long that you need to pack a lunch, but long enough to make it worth getting out of bed in the morning.
Expect to Meet Friendly People
There are two things we really love at The Journey: God and guests like you. You can expect to be warmly greeted and treated with respect. You will be offered a handshake or two and we'll make ourselves available for any questions you might have during your visit. People at our church really like coming together, it's a highlight of our week and we love to meet new people who are seeking God
Expect Sincere Worship
At The Journey, we begin each service with worship of our Lord. We don't think of it as sing-a-long time or Christian Karaoke, but rather we know the Bible teaches that God will make Himself known wherever He is worshipped. We have several gifted and talented musicians but our common goal is to worship the Lord. Our vision of worship is not limited to music and singing. As part of our worship experience, each month we share in communion and we worship weekly as we bring our tithes and offerings. We also reach out to support missionaries each month.
Expect Relevant Teaching
At The Journey, you can expect to hear the true Word of God from the pulpit. You won't get any watered-down gospel or just a bunch of nice stories but rather you will get a genuine word from the Lord. Our lead pastor has preached thousands of sermons in his many years of experience and he never fails to deliver a fresh message from the Lord. You can also expect our ministry team to highlight our pastor's message by presenting a video presentation on the big screen as he delivers the message.
Expect Your Kids to have a Great Time
At The Journey, we just love kids. If you have babies, you'll find a clean, safe, and well equipped nursery that includes a closed-circuit broadcast of the service so that parents or volunteers won't have to miss out on what is going on in the sanctuary. Children ages 4 to 12 will receive ministry from our experienced teaching staff. On Sunday mornings they can experience Journey KIDZ, a high energy children's service and on Wednesday evenings, they can choose to attend the KNIGHTS classes where there are numerous hands on Bible activities. Our Journey Youth Group, for teens 13 to 19, also have the benefit of awesome ministry designed with them in mind.
Expect a Clean and Inviting Environment
We are blessed to be able to provide comfortable seating along with a wonderful audio and video system to make each service memorable. Our building is conveniently located on the corners of 6th and Hulman Streets in the historic residential district of Terre Haute, Indiana. We have special parking marked for guests but feel free to park in any of our lots or along 6th Street.

Expect to Meet a Caring and Competent Ministry Team
In May of 2001, Patrick Newton became the lead pastor of The Journey. Born and raised in the Wabash Valley, Pastor Newton has a vision for the people of the area. Pastor Newton graduated Magna Cum Laude from ISU in 1989 with two degrees; one in Construction Management and the other in Architecture.
Upon graduation, he immediately entered the field and began successfully pursuing this career. But shortly thereafter, the Lord called him into the preaching ministry. Pastor Newton abandoned his personal goals to follow the calling of God upon his life. He married his sweetheart Jody and entered the ministry in 1992, was ordained in 1998 and has never looked back. Since then, the anointing of the Lord Jesus has been evident in their ministry. Thousands have been touched through his dynamic preaching and the gifts of the Holy Spirit working through them.
Pastor and Sister Newton love people and want to see them grow in their walk with the Lord. They have a terrific way of making people feel comfortable as the learn God's ways. When you come to The Journey, you will immediately be drawn to the Lord as our pastor begins to share God's Word.
